Glassmorphism Website Design - Zephyra Studio
What glassmorphism is and who it's for
Glassmorphism is a visual style built around translucent, blurred panels floating over a vivid or gradient background, with a thin light border that reads as the edge of a pane of frosted glass. Content sits on top of these panels, so the background colour shows through softly rather than being hidden behind a solid card.
It fits brands aiming for a modern, premium and slightly futuristic feel: SaaS products, fintech apps, product landing pages, and any brand that wants a visual signal of sophistication without going as dark or bold as bento dark mode or brutalism. It works especially well on hero sections and feature cards, less well on long, text-heavy pages where the effect becomes visual noise rather than a highlight.
Advantages compared to alternatives
Compared to a flat, solid-colour card design, glassmorphism adds a sense of depth and hierarchy that feels contemporary and can make a landing page feel more premium at a glance, particularly over a rich background image or gradient.
The trade-off, compared to flat design or bento dark mode, is that it needs more careful contrast work: text sitting on a semi-transparent panel is at real risk of becoming hard to read if the background behind it is busy or the blur isn't tuned correctly. Where bento dark mode uses solid dark surfaces for reliable contrast, glassmorphism is inherently more fragile and needs testing across different backgrounds and screen brightness levels.
How we work on glassmorphism
We start by choosing a background (image or gradient) strong enough to make the glass effect worth using, then tune blur intensity, panel opacity and border treatment so panels read clearly as a distinct layer. Every text element gets checked against its actual background for contrast, not just against the panel colour in isolation, since the visible background shows through and affects legibility.
Because this style is more performance-sensitive (blur effects can be costly to render, especially on older phones), we test loading and scroll performance specifically for this style, and simplify the effect on mobile where needed rather than forcing the same heavy blur everywhere.
Approximate price
Glassmorphism generally needs more design and accessibility testing time than flat design, so it sits toward the higher end of styles we offer for smaller sites. The exact price depends on the number of pages and how many custom glass-panel components are needed - get a precise estimate through our calculator or a short conversation.
Frequently asked questions
Glassmorphism uses frosted, semi-transparent panels with soft blur and subtle borders to create a sense of layered depth, like frosted glass over a colourful background. It suits modern, premium-feeling brands, but needs careful contrast work to stay readable.
