Desktop applications - Zephyra Studio
When a browser is not enough - POS systems and internal tools built for your hardware.
What you get
- Analysis of whether a desktop application is genuinely needed or a web app would be enough, including a candid conversation about hardware constraints
- Hardware integration: fiscal printers, card readers, barcode scanners, tested against the actual equipment you use
- Offline operation where that is a requirement, syncing as soon as the connection returns
- A local database or sync with a central server for multiple locations
- Installation and staff training on how to use it, paced to your team, not a generic manual
- Updates and technical support after launch, including emergency response if a till stops working mid-shift
Why Zephyra Studio
Before proposing a desktop application, we check whether you actually need one or whether a web application (cheaper to maintain, accessible from any device) would be enough. We only recommend a desktop solution when there is a real reason - hardware, offline operation or performance - not as a default option. For example, if all you need is an overview of orders and records, a web application accessible from a phone or tablet is often more practical than a fixed till tied to one computer. A desktop solution makes sense when fiscal law or specific hardware (a receipt printer, a card reader) directly requires an integration a browser cannot safely do.
When this is not the right fit
If your business has no fiscal till, does not require offline operation, and all staff already use phones/tablets for daily work, a plain web application is probably the better choice - it is available instantly on any device, with no installation, and updates automatically with no on-site visit needed.
How we work
We analyse the process and check whether a desktop solution makes sense for your case at all
We define features and the hardware integrations needed, with a list of the exact equipment in use
We design the interface and send it for review before full development
We build and test with the real hardware (till, printer, etc.), not just in simulation
We install on-site and train staff directly on their own equipment

Price and timeline
What drives the price:
- Number of workstations the application needs to run on
- Number and type of hardware integrations (printer, card reader, scanner)
- Whether sync with a central server or multiple locations at once is needed
- Windows, macOS or both operating systems
Frequently asked questions
Desktop applications are software that runs directly on a computer, not in a browser - used when you need access to hardware (fiscal printers, card readers), offline operation, or speed a web app cannot match. Most often this means POS/till systems and internal tools for businesses.
