Cross-Platform Apps with React Native or Flutter - Zephyra Studio
What cross-platform development is and who it's for
Cross-platform development means writing the app once, in React Native or Flutter, and shipping it to both the App Store and Google Play from a single codebase, rather than building and maintaining two separate native apps in Swift and Kotlin. Both frameworks compile down to genuinely native components on each platform, so the result feels like a real mobile app, not a website wrapped in a shell.
This is the right default for the large majority of small and mid-sized apps: booking and appointment apps, e-commerce and marketplace apps, content and community apps, and internal business tools. If your app's core job is showing data, taking input, and connecting to a backend, cross-platform handles that with performance no ordinary user will notice as different from native.
Advantages compared to alternatives
Compared to native (separate Swift and Kotlin apps), cross-platform is built once and maintained once: a bug fix or new feature is written a single time and ships to both platforms simultaneously, instead of being implemented twice by two different codebases. That difference compounds every time the app is updated after launch, not just at initial build.
The trade-off is at the extremes: apps with very heavy graphics, AR, or frame-by-frame real-time processing can hit friction cross-platform frameworks aren't built for, and that's genuinely where native pulls ahead. For the booking, e-commerce and content apps that make up most small and mid-sized projects, that ceiling is rarely reached, which is why cross-platform is our default recommendation rather than a compromise.
How we work on cross-platform development
We choose React Native or Flutter based on your specific requirements and which has stronger support for the integrations you need, then build the app as one shared codebase with platform-specific adjustments only where a genuine difference in iOS and Android conventions requires it. Stefan works directly with you throughout, and you see a working build early rather than waiting for a single finished delivery.
We reply to enquiries within 24-48 hours, and smaller to mid-sized apps are typically delivered in 2-3 weeks. Two rounds of design revisions are included, and we handle publishing the finished app to both the App Store and Google Play as part of the work.
Approximate price
The price depends on the number of screens, integrations (payment, notifications, backend services) and how much platform-specific work is needed. Because every app differs, we don't publish a fixed number - get an estimate through our calculator or a short conversation about what the app needs to do.
Frequently asked questions
Cross-platform development builds one codebase that runs on both iOS and Android, using React Native or Flutter. It delivers fully sufficient performance for most apps (booking, e-commerce, content), at roughly half the cost and time of building two separate native apps, and it's our recommendation for most small and mid-sized clients.
