Website development for vacation homes - Zephyra Studio

What a vacation home website needs

A website for a single vacation property is different from an agency site that lists dozens of apartments for various owners: here the focus is one property (or a small group of properties under the same owner), so the site needs to tell that specific property's story, not read like a catalogue of someone else's listings. A guest who searches directly for the villa's name or a destination should find everything they need on one page, not get redirected to Booking.com or Airbnb.

The biggest pain point is building trust without a big platform's review count behind you: the guest has to judge the property visually before they inquire about anything. Quality photos of the interior, exterior, and surroundings, ideally across different times of day and seasons, do more work than any description. The second pain point is availability: if the calendar is not current, a guest either requests a date that is already taken or gives up because they cannot tell if anything is free.

Seasonality also changes the site's structure: the rate and minimum stay often differ between summer, winter, or holidays, so the site should communicate that clearly instead of showing one fixed price that does not match the real offer.

  • Photos of the interior, exterior, and surroundings (beach, mountain, town centre) that build trust without relying on someone else's reviews
  • An availability calendar that is easy to keep current, ideally synced with an existing Booking.com/Airbnb calendar to avoid double bookings
  • A clear nightly rate (with seasonal differences where they apply) with no hidden costs

Features we typically include for vacation homes

Whether you have one property or a few (say, two cottages on the same plot), we choose a structure that does not make the calendar and inquiries harder to manage. What we typically build in:

  • Availability calendar with iCal sync to external platforms (Booking.com, Airbnb) to avoid double bookings
  • An inquiry or booking form with arrival/departure dates and guest count, with automatic confirmation that the request was received
  • A photo gallery organised by room and amenity (pool, barbecue, parking, terrace)
  • Surroundings and distances to relevant points (beach, ski slope, town centre, airport)
  • Seasonal pricing with a clear note of what is included (bedding, parking, and similar)
  • Google Maps integration with directions, important for properties outside town
  • A multi-language version of the page where guests mostly come from abroad

Platforms we recommend for vacation homes

For one to a few properties we usually recommend WordPress with a booking plugin that supports a calendar and iCal sync. It is flexible enough, and you can update rates and availability yourself afterwards without needing us.

If you plan to take deposits or full payment online (not just inquiries), we add a secure payment system on top. For owners with several properties and more complex needs, such as a separate calendar and price list per property on the same site, we also build a custom solution on Next.js/React, where each property gets its own page and calendar.

Frequently asked questions

A website for a vacation home (a villa, cottage, or apartment) should present the property through quality photos, a live availability calendar, and a clear nightly rate, with a way to inquire or book directly, without a middleman. The goal is for a guest to decide and book in a few clicks, without waiting on a reply or paying platform commission to Booking.com or Airbnb.

Yes. With a booking plugin that supports iCal sync, your site pulls booked dates from Booking.com/Airbnb and pushes the other way too, so the same date cannot be booked twice. Sync typically runs a few hours behind, not in real time, which is a standard limitation of the iCal protocol on every platform, not something specific to us.
